HYENA SUBPOENA skulks along the borders between predator and prey, individual and society, freedom and captivity. Narrator Mona Morse has fled civilization for the South African bushveld. Postcards home claim she’s transformed herself into a hyena. The story follows Morse through recollections of her own life’s challenges, evoked by real-life encounters with African wildlife.
